1、掌握所读材料的主旨和大意;
2、了解用以阐述主旨的事实和有关细节;
3、根据上下文判断大纲附表以外的某些词汇和短语的意义;
4、既理解个别句子的意义,也理解上下文之间的逻辑关系;
5、根据所读材料进行一定的判断,推理和引申;
Which of the following mentioned except…
Which of the following is not mentioned…?
The author provides in line…(或Paragraph…)an example in order to…
a.比较级与含有比较意义的词汇手段和句型结构;
first(第一),least(最不),uttermost(最)等;
c.表示惟一性的词汇:only,unique等;
为基础),be due to (由于);3)表示因果关系的连词或介词:because,for,why;4)表示因果关系的副词;as a result,consequently等,阅读时对这些提示词应该予以注意。
According to the passage,——It can be inferred from the passage that——;It can be concluded from the passage that——等,虽然从表面上看是问有关全文的题,但实际上不用看全篇,仍然只需要根据选项中的线索找到原文中与之相关的一句话或几句话,然后得出答案。 It can be inferred from the passage that——;It can be concluded from the passage that——等,先扫一下4个选项,排除不太可能的选项,然后根据最可能的选项中的关键词找到原文相关句,做出推理;3.

01 主旨题的标志:mainly about, mainly discuss, the best title等。
(1)局部信息,即选项的内容小于文章的内容;
出现特征:在考题中经常出现的词有infer, imply, indicate, conclude, learn from, probably, most likely, prove /according to等。
(1)、要在阅读原文基础上,仔细考虑选项是否与文章主题有密切联系;
(2)、再看选项对文章的概括性或覆盖面如何;
(3)、要注意题目是否过大或者过小;

What is the main idea of this passage? What dose this passage mainly concern? The main theme of this passage is_____________ The main point of the passage is___________ Which of the following is the best title for the passage? The title that best expresses the theme of the passage is______ The purpose of the writer writing this passage is_____ Which of the following best describes the passage as a whole? 1 The global energy crisis is roaching. What can we do? Here are some steps you can take。 Cooling puts the greatest stress on your summer energy bill and the power grid(电网). (2008·安徽卷) This passage is mainly about ________。 A. energy-sing tips B. fuel-sing tips C. do-it-yourself tips D. environment-protecting tips 故选A。 这类考题中常出现的词有:infer, imply, suggest, indicate, conclude, learn from, probably, most likely, can, could, might, may等。 From paragraph one we can infer that_________ What can be inferred from the passage? We can infer from the text that…? What can we learn from…? We can conclude from the passage that_______ The last sentence of the first paragraph most probably implies that______ The author implies that_______ This passage would most likely be found in______ The author’s attitude toward…is_________? 1 Michael Fish may soon be replaced as a weather forecaster by something truly fishier—the shark(鲨鱼)。 Research by a British biology student suggests that sharks could be used to predict storms。 Lauren Smith, 24, is close to completing her study on shark’s ability to sense pressure。 If her studies prove the theory, scientists may be able to monitor the behiour of sharks to predict bad weather。 … It has been discovered that a shark senses pressure using hair cells in its balance system。 At the Bimini Shark Lab in the Bahamas, Miss Smith fixed hi-tech sensors to sharks to record pressure and temperature, while also tracking them using GPS (Global Positioning System) technology。 In Aberdeen, she was able to study the effects of tidal(潮汐的) and temperature changes on dogfish—none of which were harmed. She also used a special lab which can mimic(模拟) oceanic pressure changes caused by weather fronts。 She is due to complete her study and graduate later this year. She says she will be looking for a job which will give her the chance to enrich her experience of shark research. The passage is most probably taken from _____。 A. a short-story collection B. a popular science magazine C. a research paper D. a personal diary 45. What do we learn from the first four paragraph of the passage? A. Sharks may be used to predict bad weather。 B. Sharks’ behiour can be controlled。 C. Michael Fish is not qualified for his job。 D. Lauren Smith will become a weather forecaster。 如:Mary is due to lee at two o’clock。 If her studies prove the theory, scientists may be able to monitor the behior of Sharks to predict bad weather。 2 It had been some time since Jack had seen the old man. College, carrier, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit of the dreams. There, in the rush of his busy life, Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him。 Over the phone, his mother told him, “Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral is Wednesday。” Memories fleshed through his mind like an old newsreel as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days。 … Inside he found these words carved: “Jack. Thanks for your time! Harold Belser。” “Oh. My God! This is the thing he valued most …” Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then called his assistant and cleared his ointments for the next two days. “Why?” his assistant asked。 “I need some time to spend with my son,” he said. Why did Jack say he needed some time to spend with his son? A. He was very tired of his work and wanted to he a good rest。 B. He had promised to spare more time to stay with his son。 C. He had missed his son and his family for days。 D. He came to realize the importance of the time with his family。

(1)认真阅读文章的第一段或每一段的第一个句子;
(2)表达主题的句子往往具有较高的概括性;
(3)文章的主题作者往往有意识地反复论述;

Europeans should try to stay indoors if ash from Iceland's volcano starts settling, the World Health Organization warned Friday as small amounts fell in Iceland, Scotland and Norway.
WHO spokesman Daniel Epstein said the microscopic(微小的) ash is potentially dangerous for people when it starts to reach the Earth because inhaled(吸入) particles can enter the lungs and cause respiratory problems. And he also said Europeans who go outside might want to consider wearing a mask.
Other experts, however, weren't convinced the volcanic ash would he a major effect on peoples' health and said WHO's warnings were "hysterical." They said volcanic ash was much less dangerous than cigarette smoke or pollution. Volcanic ash is made of fine particles of fragmented volcanic rock. It is light gray to black and can be as fine as talcum powder. During a volcanic eruption, the ash can be breathed deep into the lungs and cause irritation even in healthy people. But once it falls from a greater distance — like from the cloud currently hovering above Europe — its health effects are often minimal, experts say.
"Not all particles are created equal," said Ken Donaldson, a professor of respiratory toxicology at the University of Edinburgh, "In the great scheme of things, volcanic ash is not all that harmful." And he said most Europeans' exposure to volcanic ash would be negligible and that only those in the near districts of the Icelandic volcano would likely be at risk.
Dr. Stephen Spiro, a professor of respiratory medicine and deputy chair of the British Lung Foundation, said the further the particles trel, the less dangerous they will be. "The cloud has already passed over northern Scotland and we hen't heard of any ill effects there," he said. Spiro said to wear masks or stay indoors to oid volcanic ash was "over the top" and "a bit hysterical."
60. The text is mainly about .
A. the effect of volcanic ash
B. the health risk of volcanic ash
C. the disadvantages of volcanic ash
D. the opinions on health risk of volcanic ash
61. Which one is true according to Paragraph3?

B. The ash caused irritation even in healthy people.
C. Other experts thought WTO’S warnings were useful.
D. The volcanic ash was more dangerous than cigarette smoke or pollution.
62. The underlined word “hysterical” in Paragraph4 most probably means .
A. amazing B. practical C. valuable D. overstated
63. What can we learn from the passage?
A. The volcanic ash wouldn’t be harmful to people.
B. All experts thought the volcanic ash did great harm to our health.
C. People close to the volcano would likely be at risk according to some experts.
D. Europeans should stay indoors because Iceland's volcano starts settling.
